Product News: Connect One - Nano WiReach SMT

The new Nano WiReach™ SMT is a secure embedded Wireless LAN module that easily connects embedded devices to 802.11b/g Wireless LAN, 10/100BaseT wired LAN and cellular WAN. It includes the iChip™ CO2144 IP Communication Controller™ chip and Marvell 88W8686 WiFi chipset and is packaged in a 37x20mm RoHS-compliant ultra-slim low profile 44-pin SMT module form factor with an on-board or external antenna.

Nano WiReach SMT makes adding Internet connectivity to embedded devices a breeze. It does not require any kind of WiFi driver development on the host CPU and its multiple interfaces (UART, SPI, RMII and USB 1.1) minimize the need to redesign the host device hardware.

Operation Modes:
Embedded Router

• Providing routing facilities between a wired LAN subnet, a WiFi subnet and a cellular WAN connection
• Includes a DHCP server, NAT and port forwarding

Serial to WiFi Bridge

• allows transparent bridging of Serial over WiFi (SerialNET)
• high-speed UART interface with up to 3 Mbps

LAN to WiFi Bridge

• allows transparent bridging of LAN over WiFi
• direct RMII connection to an existing MAC hardware

PPP emulation

• allows existing designs, currently using PPP, to interface to a cellular modem to connect transparently over WiFi

Full Internet Controller mode

• allows simple MCUs to use the Nano WiReach SMT‘s rich protocol and application capabilities
• perform complex Internet operations like Email, FTP, SSL, web server
• the Internet controller mode can be used with any hardware interface the Nano WiReach SMT offers.

Nano WiReach SMT includes RMII, USB, SPI and fast UART interfaces for easy integration into existing or new designs. It offers a highly advanced level of Internet security, including the latest WiFi encryption algorithms (WPA/WPA2, in both PSK and Enterprise modes) and Internet SSL encryption algorithms. In addition, it serves as an inherent firewall, protecting the embedded application from attacks originating from the Internet.

At approx. 32 USD (at 5k pieces, external antenna) the Nano WiReach SMT is an extremely good value when it comes to price.
